Immunol.1976 Sep 01; 117 AB - Review of the Notation for the Allotypic and Related Markers of Human Immunoglobulins.1 Notation for the Allotypes. It is now possible to identify the chain on which a given allotype is found. Consequently, it is advisable to modify the nomenclature recommended in 1965 to include this information. Although it was concluded that it is desirable to retain, extend, and modify where necessary the alphameric and numeric systems of nomenclature for the Gm allotypes, the signatories have agreed to employ numbers for the allotypes on the kappa and alpha 2 chains of Ig, and for allotypes which may be discovered on other chains of Ig in the future. It is recommended that the generic designation of heavy chain allotypes be as follows: G1m, G2m, G3m and A2m, and when and if allotypes are found on them G4m, A1m, Mm, Dm, etc. … If subclasses should be found among the latter two classes of chains, their designation should follow that used for the IgG and IgA heavy chains.
