In January 2001, Orwin et al. (1) and Fitzgerald et al. (2) described new staphylococcal enterotoxins that they have designated SEK and SEL, respectively. Unfortunately, these toxins were different from the SEL and SEK encoded by the enterotoxin gene cluster (egc) that we have published in The Journal of Immunology (3). Thus, we propose to rename the entertoxins encoded by egc as follows to rule out possible confusion between these toxins:
