Abstract
High pressures, on the order of 1000 atmospheres, were found to have a retarding effect on the rate of inactivation of the enzyme, Cypridina luciferase, by rabbit antibody. The volume change of activation ranged from 9–12 ml/mole at 25.0°C. This small volume change has been interpreted to mean that (a) compensating volume changes are involved or (b) little conformational change takes place in the process of inactivation and that the combining site or sites are readily accessible, instead of being deeply imbedded in the molecules.
