-Globulins in Normal Human Urine1From the Department of Medicine, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and Francis Delafield Hospital, New York, New York
Abstract
Low molecular weight
-globulins in normal human urine (
-u) are antigenically related to the S fragment of papain-digested
2-globulin and have thermosolubility properties similar to those of Bence Jones proteins.
By immunodiffusion techniques, it has been established that there are at least two distinct populations of
-u, designated
-uA and
-uB, which are respectively related to the Korngold and Lipari type A (= Mannik and Kunkel group 2) and Korngold and Lipari type B (= Mannik and Kunkel group 1) Bence Jones proteins.
The low molecular weight
-u-globulins are increased in patients with various diseases associated with hypergammaglobulinemia and diminished in patients with hypogammaglobulinemia.
