Studies of Hemagglutination as a Means for Assay of Malignant and Normal Human Tissue Antigens1

Abstract

Tannic acid-treated sheep red cells were labeled with malignant and normal human tissue antigens. The sensitivity and specificity of their agglutinability was studied under various conditions. Critical factors were pH during tannic acid treatment and labeling, interval between tannic acid treatment and labeling, extraction and concentration of antigen, concentrations of antigen vs. tannic acid, and red cell concentration.
