Abstract
- 1. Salmonella typhosa contains at least six distinct antigens. These have been identified as O, Vi, H, two group-specific antigens common to salmonellas, and one cross-reacting antigen be-between the salmonellas and Shigella flexneri.
- 2. The group antigens are discussed and it is pointed out that these antigens, detected by agar gel precipitin tests, do not take part in the usual agglutination reaction although they are probably present on the surface of the bacterial cell and can absorb antibody from an antiserum.
