Abstract
The reaction between dextran B1254-FrL and the properdin-complement system of both guinea pig and human serum has been studied kinetically as a function of temperature, serum concentration and dextran concentration. Optimal reaction rates are obtained over the range of 20–143
of dextran/ml reaction mixture. Increasing the concentration of dextran markedly inhibits the formation of the dextran-properdin complex. Practical considerations are discussed in regard to the screening of dextrans for reactivity in the properdin-complement system.
