Antigenicity of Polypeptides (Poly Alpha Amino Acids)1

From the Department of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh 13, Pennsylvania

Abstract

The antigenicity in rabbits of various synthetic polypeptides has been studied. Employing both in vitro and in vivo tests for detecting antibody, it was shown that, of all the materials studied only the copolymer of glutamic acid and lysine (450–200B) was antigenic, and this was weakly so. The specificity of the antigen-antibody reaction and the future use of anticopolymer sera has been discussed.
