Abstract
Localization of intravenously injected radioactive TMV in mouse liver has been studied by cellular fractionation and electron microscopy.
TMV uptake by the mitochondria as measured by radioactivity has been confirmed by electron microscopy of the isolated fractions.
No evidence was obtained for the localization of TMV in the nuclei of any cell types.
Electron microscopy of thin sections revealed aggregates of TMV only within vacuoles of Kupffer cells. Failure to detect TMV in sections of mitochondria is explained in terms of lack of sensitivity of the method.
