Chen Chen-Jen and Samuel H. Zia

From the National Vaccine and Serum Institute (National Epidemic Prevention Bureau), Temple of Heaven, Peiping, China

Abstract

A fixed rabies virus has been cultivated in the developing fetal brain of the guinea pig in utero in three series through 8, 5 and 16 successive passages, respectively, with its virulence undiminished. It was found to be fully antigenic and yielded vaccine comparable to that of infected adult brain tissue. The advantage of using the embryonic tissue vaccine by this simple method is discussed.
