From the Division of Bacteriology and the Division of Pediatrics, University of California Medical School, San Francisco 22, California

Abstract

1. Sera were obtained from 212 normal infants and children during the winter and spring of 1947, and the neutralizing antibody titers for types A and B influenza viruses were obtained, using the Hirst agglutination-inhibition technic.
2. Titers ranged from below 1–20 up to 1–1280, with the majority between 1–20 and 1–160. There was some indication of a higher average titer for type B than for type A.
3. The data reported herein should supply basic information regarding the incidence of neutralizing antibodies in normal infants and children during a nonepidemic period.
