Observations on Antibiotic Coaction of Gramicidin and Penicillin on Streptococci and Staphylococci in Vitro

E. J. Foley and S. W. Lee

From Wallace Laboratories, Inc., Princeton, New Jersey

Abstract

Gramicidin in minimal effective concentrations has a more rapid bactericidal action on susceptible bacteria than does penicillin in amounts approaching minimum effective concentrations.

Mixtures of gramicidin and penicillin have a more efficient bactericidal and bacteriostatic action than either drug when used alone in comparable quantities.
