A Comparison of Rabbit and Mouse Antisera to Shigella Paradysenteriae1

Beatrice W. Doak, Seymour P. Halbert, Joseph Smolens and Stuart Mudd

From the Department of Bacteriology, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania

Abstract

1. Agglutinin-titers against the same strains of S. paradysenteriae are higher in rabbit than in mouse antisera.
2. High precipitin and mouse-protective titers are reached in rabbit sera, but they are negligible or low in mouse antisera.
3. Mouse antisera obtained by us against the strains of S. paradysenteriae are more type specific than the corresponding rabbit immune sera.
