The Inheritance of an Agglutinogen of the Chicken Erythrocyte1

Carl Olson, Jr.2

From the Department of Veterinary Science, Massachusetts State College, Amherst, Mass.

Abstract

An agglutinogen of erythrocytes in a family of chickens has been studied by means of agglutinins present in normal bovine serum. Cross absorption tests indicated three types of erythrocytes. Two types were quantitatively dissimilar and the third was qualitatively different. The inheritance of the agglutinogen could be explained on the basis of a single pair of allelic genes, one dominant and one recessive.
