Chemo-Therapeutic and Immuno-Therapeutic Testing of Eberthella Typhosa in the Developing Chick Embryo

A. J. Weil and L. S. Gall

From the Department of Biological Research, Lederle Laboratories, Inc., Pearl River, New York

Abstract

1. The developing chick embryo is highly susceptible to infection with E. typhosa.
2. The experimental possibilities of the chick-embryo method for experimentation with typhoid bacilli are exemplified in quantitative tests demonstrating: (a) protection by an anti-typhoid rabbit immune serum, (b) effect of sulfathiazole, (c) cumulative effect of combinations of sub-optimal amounts of both antibody and drug.
