The Plasma Lipids in Purpura Produced with Antiplatelet Serum

L. M. Tocantins1 and A. Cantarow

From the Department of Medicine, Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Abstract

The following changes occur in the plasma lipids of dogs with thrombopenic purpura produced experimentally by the injection of a moderate dose of antiplatelet serum: the fatty acids show an immediate slight decrease followed by a marked increase, one to two days later, with a subsequent return to normal; there is an immediate increase in lipid phosphorus that persists for 3 to 8 days; the cholesterol shows no significant changes.
