Blood Grouping of Rwala Bedouin

William M. Shanklin

From the Department of Histology, School of Medicine, American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon (Syria)

Abstract

The racial purity and antiquity of these Arabs is deduced from the high percentage of group O in the 320 Rwala Arabs examined. The results of this examination seem to indicate that the Rwala are in some way related to the American Indians on account of the close resemblance between their blood-typings, while it would appear that no such relation exists between them and the other Asiatic races previously typed. It is suggested that both the Rwala and the American Indians separated from the rest of the human race before the appearance of factors A and B.
