A second isoform of pT
, "pT
b," is
derived from the pT
locus by tissue-specific, alternative splicing.
pT
b is coexpressed in the thymus with the previously
characterized form of pT
(which we term pT
a) and is
also expressed in peripheral cells without pT
a. While
pT
a acts to retain most TCR ß-chains intracellularly,
pT
b permits higher levels of cell surface TCRß
expression and facilitates signaling from a CD3-TCRß complex.
