Anti-Histone KSAchicken Antibody from Guinea Pig1

Casilda Mura2, P. C. Huang3 and David A. Levy

From the Department of Biochemical and Biophysical Sciences, The Johns Hopkins University, School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland 21205

Abstract

Avian erythrocyte-specific histone KSA was purified from chicken red blood cells by selective extraction and by chromatography on amberlite CG-50 columns. This histone was used in the production of antibody in guinea pigs. By immunoprecipitation and microcomplement-fixation tests, the antibody was shown to be specific for histone KSA; reaction was not seen with histones KAP, ARE, GRK, LAK, and KAS. The observation supports the notion that histone KSA has an independent origin from the other histones.
