The Effect of Anti-Plasma Cell Serum on B Cells

Hideo Nariuchi and Tyoku Matuhasi

From the Department of Allergology, The Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo, Minatoku 108, Tokyo, Japan

Abstract

Anti-plasma cell serum prepared against plasmacytoma 5563 was found to contain antibodies which are specific for surface antigens of lymph node cells bearing a receptor for C3. When lymph node cells were exposed to the antiserum and guinea pig complement prior to assay, a large number of the cells lost their capacity to bind the sheep red blood cells coated with IgM antibody and complement. This antiserum did not affect the cells bearing the receptor which requires Mg++ for the attachment of C3.
