Abstract

Reactions of infectious mononucleosis sera with murine lymphoma cells were studied by means of complement-mediated cytolysis and agglutination tests. Most experiments were performed with L5178Y lymphoblastic cell line of DBA/2 mouse origin, but similar results were obtained with three other murine lymphomas. All infectious mononucleosis sera with heterophile antibodies gave positive results with murine lymphoblasts. Cytolytic titers were considerably higher than agglutinating titers. Absorption experiments showed that the observed reactions were produced by heterophile antibodies combining with an antigen of murine lymphoblasts which is identical with or closely related to the heterophile antigen of bovine and sheep erythrocytes.
