Structure and Biologic Functions of Human IgD

I. The Presence of Immunoglobulin D in Human Cord Sera

Gerrie A. Leslie1 and Tommy E. Swate

From the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisiana 70112

Abstract

Analysis of human cord sera showed that approximately 4.5% contained IgD. Comparisons of the concentration of maternal and cord IgD, IgA, IgM and haptoglobin suggest that the IgD present in at least half of these cord sera was of fetal origin.
