Abstract

The half-lives (t1/2) of guinea pig {gamma}1 globulin and {gamma}2 globulin antibodies (antiovalbumin) have been compared in normal guinea pigs. These animals catabolized {gamma}1-antibody more slowly than {gamma}2-antibody. The average t1/2 of {gamma}1 was 7.1 days; the average t1/2 of {gamma}2 was 5.1 days. When guinea pigs were actively immunized with bovine {gamma} globulin, the level of circulating {gamma}1 globulin increased on the average 8 to 9 times above the preimmunization level, and the average t1/2 of injected {gamma}1 decreased to 5.3 days.
