Half-Life of Guinea Pig ₁ Globulin and ₂ Globulin Antibodies¹

Abstract

The half-lives (t_1/2) of guinea pig ₁ globulin and ₂ globulin antibodies (antiovalbumin) have been compared in normal guinea pigs. These animals catabolized ₁-antibody more slowly than ₂-antibody. The average t_1/2 of ₁ was 7.1 days; the average t_1/2 of ₂ was 5.1 days. When guinea pigs were actively immunized with bovine globulin, the level of circulating ₁ globulin increased on the average 8 to 9 times above the preimmunization level, and the average t_1/2 of injected ₁ decreased to 5.3 days.
