John P. Gusdon, Jr., Vernon L. Moore, Quentin N. Myrvik and Paul A. Holyfield

From the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Department of Microbiology of the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27103

Abstract

The effects of promethazine-HCl on humoral antibody synthesis and on delayed hypersensitivity have been evaluated. The primary and secondary immune responses to bovine serum albumin (BSA) and bovine {gamma} globulin (BGG) were significantly reduced. There was a highly significant reduction in tuberculin hypersensitivity when the drug was administered before and during the development of the hypersensitive state.
