Physicochemical and Antigenic Studies on Human {gamma}E in Respiratory Fluid1

Richard W. Newcomb and Kimishige Ishizaka

From the Children's Asthma Research Institute and Hospital, Denver, Colorado 80204

Abstract

The {gamma}E in sputum and nasal fluid specimens from asthmatic children behaves like the {gamma}E in serum on ion-exchange chromatography, gel filtration and ultracentrifugation. No secretory piece antigen was demonstrable on the {gamma}E in respiratory exocrine fluids. Like the {gamma}E in serum, sputum {gamma}E sensitized monkey skin for passive cutaneous anaphylaxis.
