Production of Anti-Hapten Antibodies by Several Classes of Lower Vertebrates1

Gerrie A. Leslie and L. William Clem

From the Department of Microbiology, College of Medicine, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida 32601

Abstract

Antibody against DNP was demonstrated in several classes of lower vertebrates immunized with DNP-protein conjugates. In many cases, the antibody could only be detected by the neutralization technique employing DNP-T4 phage; however, teleosts in general appeared capable of synthesizing rather high levels of antibody to DNP.
