1 c/a Globulin Levels in Dengue Shock SyndromeFrom the Medical Research Laboratory SEATO Medical Project, 2 Rajavithi Road, Bangkok Thailand and Children's Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand
Abstract
The anti-dengue immunoglobulins present in the sera of 12 children with dengue shock syndrome were studied by immunochemical and serologic methods. IgG antibody was shown to have HI, CF and N activity against dengue viruses. No anti-dengue antibody activity was attributable to IgA or IgM in these patients, all of whom had secondary dengue infections. A depression in serum
1 c/a globulin levels was observed in 23 dengue shock syndrome patients during the shock phase of the illness. Normal levels were found following convalescence. The significance of these observations with respect to possible immunologic mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of the dengue shock syndrome is discussed.
