E Antibody Complexes in Humans1From the Children's Asthma Research Institute and Hospital, Denver, Colorado
Abstract
The activity of soluble antigen-antibody complexes to induce erythema-wheal reactions in humans was studied using a ragweed antigen-human antibody system. It was found that
E-antibody complexes induced positive skin reactions, whereas neither
G- nor
A-antibody complexes did. The skin reactivity of
E-antibody complexes depended on composition of the complexes. Analysis by sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation strongly suggests the requirement of two or more antibody molecules for the formation of an active complex. The mechanisms involved in the induction of skin reactivity by the formation of complexes are discussed.
