The Induction of Acute Glomerulonephritis in Rabbits with Soluble Antigens Isolated from Normal Homologous and Autologous Urine1,2,

From the Department of Experimental Pathology, Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, LaJolla, California 92037

Abstract

Rabbits injected with crude or partially purified fractions of normal autologous or homologous urine developed glomerulonephritis. Only those fractions of urine which contained soluble GBM antigens were nephritogenic. The nephritis was shown to be mediated by anti-GBM antibodies and could be transferred to previously healthy recipients with globulin eluted from nephritic kidneys.
