Ultracentrifugation of the First Component of Complement: Effects of Ionic Strength

Harvey R. Colten, Tibor Borsos and Herbert J. Rapp

From the Biology Branch, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland

Abstract

The sedimentation constant of guinea pig C'1 and C'1a varies inversely with the ionic strength of the sucrose density gradient. Ultracentrifugation of C'1 at µ = 0.065 resulted in its activation to C'1a.
