Abstract
Stable Fc fragments were obtained by incubation of human or rabbit IgM with sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Hydrolysis of IgM with papain yielded only small amounts of Fc fragment. Treatment of rabbit IgG with NaBH4 resulted in the formation of Fc fragments which were identical to those obtained by papain digestion. NaBH4 appears to be more suitable than papain for obtaining Fc fragments of IgM.
