The Antigenic Determinants of the Variable Half of a Bence-Jones Protein of Type L1

A. Ruffilli

International Laboratory of Genetics and Biophysics, Naples, Italy

Abstract

The antigenic determinants of a fragment of a Bence-Jones protein of type L corresponding to the NH2-terminal variable half of this protein were studied. Information about the number of these antigenic determinants, their distribution among Bence-Jones proteins of type K and L and their presence in human IgG immunoglobulin was obtained. The best experimental conditions for identifying these immunologic "markers" in the variable half of the light chains of immunoglobulins were described.
